A WISE affinity group
The Rose Whelan Society was organized in October of 2001, principally through the efforts of Kathryn Leonard, a graduate student in the mathematics department, and Mirelle Boutin, a postdoctorate in the applied mathematics department. We chose to name ourselves after the first person to receive a Ph.D. from Brown's Department of Mathematics. Click here to read more about the life of Rose Whelan. Much support in getting this organization off the ground was received from the existing framework for affinity groups at Brown University. Our current acitvities are made possible through funding from the National Science Foundation VIGRE grant.
