Banchoff with Strauss at the Scope

Tom Banchoff and Charles Strauss, colleagues at Brown University and partners in Banchoff-Strauss Productions, Inc., shown here in their groundbreaking computer graphics lab in 1979.

In the scope is a version of the Klein bottle that they could investigate interactively via the knobs and controls in front of the screen. Movies could be made by the time-consuming method of taking each frame several times through different color filters. The process took hours to produce a few minutes of film.
