All nature is but art, unknown to thee;
All chance, direction which thou canst not see;
All discord, harmony not understood;
All partial evil, universal good;
And, spite of pride, in erring reason's spite;
One truth is clear, Whatever is, is right
-Alexander Pope
SOLID GEOMETIRICAL FIGURES: Escher delighted in simply rendering
regular geometric solids as themselves, but the figures are often given
a personal touch which makes them artistically accessible. In Flatworms,
Escher discovers the fact that tetrahedrons and octahedrons have supplementary
dihedral angles, making it possible for all space to be filled with them,
and so he constructs their environment with these configurations.

He also turns regular solids into manifestations of the world itself, as
in works #365 and 395, or as figurations of natural objects, such as his
Study for Stars (#358).
