Even though some progress was done in perspective in the Antiquity, a long period of stagnation followed. It is only in the Renaissance when mankind became aware of the rules of perspective. It seems that the human had to learn how to separate his tactile-muscular perception from the visual one in order to be ready for the logical concept of perspective. Once the rules of perspective have been developed, they become the means to depict reality until all possibilities have been explored. It is Cezanne who first broke the rules. After him the use or denial of perspective in art became more than just depicting reality, it expresses a combination of objective and subjective reality. With Salvador Dali perspective became a tool to create an imaginary world in familiar space also obeying the rules of perspective.

Today artists express their creativity through a multitude of media (T.V. , Cinema, Photography ...). Modern technology such as computer science enables to create easily a surreal world out of optical reality. This technology is applied for artistic and commercial means. So the ways of creating a realistic impression of an artistic world become more and more sophisticated. Art is no longer restricted to a still, flat image. As exemplified by 3-D movies, the artistic perception progressed into higher dimensions (time and three dimensional visual effects). Computer games additionally are based on the interaction between the player and the program of the game. Still, the player perceives the game in a distinct world of his own, since he cannot enter into the realm of the game. The current research in modern technology shows that virtual reality is going to be the most sophisticated artistic perception. For the first time, the artist is able to incorporate the spectator into his own world and the spectatorıs real world is replaced by the imaginary world.
