Response from Prof. B.

Technically your Descent game has three degrees of freedom, not six. You have one degree of freedom when you can decide to go forward _or_ back. If you can only go forward, you don't have "freedom". Thus with three perpendicular axes, the degrees of freedom would be three. There may be differences of usage in various treatments of this subject, of course, but this, I believe, is the most generally accepted one.
