Welcome to the Home Page of MATH 114: (Functions of several variables--Introduction to Real Analysis)

Instructor: Hee Oh

Office: Kassar 113; e-mail: heeoh at math dot brown dot edu

Office Hours: Tuesday 10:30-11:30 am or by appointments

The grader for this course is Jonathan Aronson (jonathan_aronson@brown.edu)

The course meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:00-11:15 in Kessar 105

We will cover topics including calculus on manifolds, differential forms and integration on manifolds. The official textbook for this course is Mathematical Analysis:An introduction, by Browder. Other useful references include "Calculus on manifolds" by Spivak and "Introduction to Smooth manifolds" by Lee.

The final grade will be computed by HW (20%), Midterm (30%) and Final exam (50 %). Homeworks will be posted on this page every the other Wed (starting Jan 30) and due on the following Tuesday before the class begins (so the first HW set will be collected on Feb 5). No late HW will be accepted. You are encouraged to discuss the HW problems with other students, but writing the HW solutions should be done independently in your own words.

The midterm will be given in the week of March 11-15.

  • HW 1 (due Feb 5) (pdf)

  • HW 2 (due Feb 19): Do the following problems from the textbook, p.198:9, 14,15,16,17,18,19 and problems 1-3 and 1-5 from the handout notes.
