• Homework is assigned each class and is due the next class.

  LATE HOMEWORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

  The important thing is that you do the homework assignments, because that is how you will really learn the material. If you are sick, or out of town, or otherwise unable to hand in one or two assignments, it is very unlikely that the missing homeworks will affect your final grade in the course, so don't get frantic about it. But if you don't even work on an assignment, that could well have a very bad effect, since you won't know that material. In other words, doing the homework is for your benefit, not for mine. And it's the doing that's most important.
• Homework must be stapled with name and recitation clearly printed at the top.
• Homework will be returned on Tuesday in recitation section.
• Everyone should be familiar with the following terms and concepts from high school.
  • Real numbers, absolute values, intervals, functions.
  • Distance between points, straight lines and slopes, equations of straight lines.
  • Graphs of equations, graphs of functions.
  • Combinations of functions, polynomials, trigonometric functions.
  Most of this material is reviewed in Appendices A, B and D at the end of the book. The italicized items are especially important, since we'll be using them frequently, starting the first day of class. If you don't remember this material and don't take the time to review it, you will have a very hard time learning calculus.
• There is a discussion of "Principles of Problem Solving" on Pages 80-84 that you should also read.

Where To Go For Additional Help

• Office Hours: Your professor and your recitation section instructor will announce their office hours during the first week of classes.
• Math Resource Center (MRC): The MRC helps students with calculus, including homework problems and concepts from lecture. Drop-in help is available in

  Kassar House (151 Thayer Street), Room 105
  Monday through Thursday, 8:00-10:00 pm.
