The Horse

Construction of the horse began with the sketches shown on the Design page, which were used as a guideline for the proportions of each part. It was difficult to maintain exact sizes with the materials used, but because the distortion allowed for changes in size simply by changing the final location of the parts, this did not interfere with the final appearance of the project.

The horse was constructed from a wire frame covered in plaster. First a very rough model was made with heavy wire, which was then filled in with thinner wire to achieve a more uniform and defined surface. The frame was then stuffed with paper and covered in plaster strips, using plaster of Paris to smooth out the surface.Spray paint and a base provided the finishing touches.
