Math 190
Math 190 Homepage (Fall 2009)

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Math 0190 is advanced placement calculus for engineering/physics students. The course will cover the following distinct topics: vectors, techniques of integration, parametric curves, infinite series differential equations. An additional recitation (or conference) section is scheduled for Thursday at noon, staffed by an undergraduate TA.

The textbook for this course is Calculus, Early Transendentals, by Edwards and Penney, a custom edition.

QUICK FACTS/TIPS FOR SUCCESS

Grading
Your grade is based on Homework (25%), Midterm Exam (25%), and a Final Exam (50%). The final exam is cumulative: it will cover all the material of this course.

Final Exam
The final exam is a written exam for all four sections of Math 0190. It is scheduled for December 15. Everyone who is enrolled in a section of Math 0190 is expected to take this final exam at this date and time.

Midterm Exam

Homework
Homework will be assigned every week. The homework for the section(s) of the book covered during a particular lecture should be attempted *as soon as possible* in order to stay current in the class. (See the "Tips" below.) All homework will be collected and returned in the Thursday conference sessions.Check this website for updates on assignments. Your TA will grade a subset of the homework problems. To ensure full credit, and to be sure that you are learning the material, do all the problems assigned. Late homeworks are not accepted. The lowest homework score in the semester will be dropped. You may discuss homework problems and share ideas. However, you must write up your solutions on your own and without assistance. Students who never work alone on the assignments can sometimes be unpleasantly surprised by the inability to solve problems on exams.

Office Hours
Your instructor will have drop in office hours. You need no appointment. Please use these office hours to help you clarify material that you don't understand, or just drop in to listen to the questions that others may have.

In addition to the office hours of your instructors, and the recitation section, you can get help at the Math Resource Center. See MRC for more information about the MRC this semester.
