Part 1: The discovery of linear perspective

Although early letters from a man called Vitellio refer to some theory of the vanishing point, it is Fillipo Bruneschelli, the famous builder of the Florentine Cathedral dome, who is the true founder of linear perspective. He is the first who demonstrates experimentally the importance of the vanishing point, the horizon and the distance to the drawn object. One has to remark that at this stage mathematics was not developed enough to enable a rigorous proof.
