We interact in a world that we perceive to have three physical dimensions. It has width, height, and depth; and we perceive all of these dimensions, but how exactly do we perceive them? We use lots of clues, clues like tactile and visual stimuli. But how do these clues give us the perception of three dimensions?

Well, it's obvious that by moving our hands in three dimensions we can feel a cube in three dimensions, but how exactly is it that we see a cube in three dimensions?

With two eyes, we are able to triangulate what we see and gain an understanding of its distance away from us. This is a simplified description of how our vision works. We also use other visual clues to perceive depth.

Amazingly, because we are so used to using our eyes in this way, we are able to use our knowledge of human vision to view three dimensional objects using two-dimensional surfaces. Such visualization requires the use of certain tools and techniques in order to trick the mind into perceiving 2D information in the third dimension.
