Stucco Relief



allahallah A method of decoration common in pre-Islamic Iran and Iraq was stucco relief. Wet plaster, the basic material, was cheap, flexible, and effective, particularly adaptable to the execution of the freely flowing line that characterizes Islamic ornament. One of the richest examples is found in the Alhmabra palace in Granada, Spain, in the Court of the Lions:
