Banded Torus

This image represents a torus of revolution. Various bands, however, have been removed, to make the interior structure more apparent. This particular torus is the tereographic projection of a torus in four-space. As the torus rotates in four dimensions, its projection becomes a cyclide of Dupin, and as the torus passes through the projection point, the image stretches out to infinity. After passing through the projection point, the image closes up again, but with the circular bands going around the tube rather than the hole (the torus seems to have "turned inside out").

The complete sequence is shown in one of the animations on the TFBCON2003 home page, and also in the virtual art show Surfaces Beyond the Third Dimension.
